Launched in 1995, as an initiative of the EGPL, the scientific council of the EPLO, the Academy of European Public Law has been the oldest and most esteemed educational program of the EPLO, as well as the most representative of its mandate since the establishment of the EPLO has been entwined with the development of European Public Law, and the emergence of the EU as a new legal order in international law.
The program offers leading specialized study sessions in the field of European Public Law to young jurists and scholars who wish to further their knowledge and skills on the reasoning and philosophy of the different national public law systems of European countries, as well as the divergences among them, and having assembled the academic potential of Universities from all over Europe, partners in the program, the sessions are taught by the leading professors in the field drawn from these partner-universities.
The core study session is conducted on an annual basis in Greece and has three-week duration.
The Academy of European Public Law organizes extraordinary sessions throughout the year in locations outside Greece in partnership with higher education institutions such as the Summer Session in Mariupol, Ukraine, that took place during the summers of 2008 and 2009 at the Mariupol State University of Humanities.
The 2010 Study Session to take place on the island of Spetses, Greece, marks the 16th anniversary of the Academy of European Public Law.
